Tell me a little about you and your company.
I am a mom of two little kids, a wife, surfer and designer. My company is Three Feathers Design and I help creative entrepreneurs build kick ass brands.
How long have you owned your own business?
It is coming on 2 years, but I just recently started working full-time for myself, up until recently I had a part-time job - to pay the bills and provide a little security while I built my business.
What made you decide to start your own business?
One day I was sitting at my office job, working another 8 hour day in a 40 hour week, staring a picture of my little boy and thought to myself, "there has to be a way to spend time with him while providing for my family". So I decided to empower myself with self-employment training and jumped two feet in!
What was the best advice you received when you started your career?
Just go for it, you'll never look back.
What do you wish someone had told you when you started your business?
Outsource more. You don't have to spend precious time doing every little part of your business. It will save you money in the long run to hire an expert.
What are the three skills that new entrepreneurs need in order to succeed?
Networking, able to teach yourself new things, ability to learn from mistakes
What routines do you have in place to help your days run smoothly?
Coffee! First thing, always coffee. I also live by my calendar, I am consistently checking it, updating it and referring to my tasks in there. That helps keep me on track and ready for the day.
How do you find balance as an entrepreneur?
I try my very best to work not work on the weekends, for me that is my family and personal time. There are always exceptions but I have found that taking two days to myself is incredibly rejuvenating and I love the quality time with my kids.
What is your favorite thing about being an entrepreneur?
Being an entrepreneur has given me the opportunity to spend more time with my family I love making my own schedule, the flexibility and not answering to anybody other than myself.
What do you do to unwind?
Netflix and chill usually does the trick, I am also a weekend warrior surfer, so if there are waves, I always try and make it out.
What is a project that you are working on right now or just finished?
I have some new clients that I am creating brands for, I am most excited about helping my sister build her business, she is so creative and inspiring. That is one of the things I love about working with businesses, I am so inspired by other entrepreneurs
