Tell me a little about you and your company.
Hei! My name is Ieva, I am a freelance web designer + strategist, working and traveling as a digital nomad. For now, I am located in Croatia although originally I am from the capital city of beautiful Latvia. All my offers, creative activities as well as traveling experiences & design/business/blogging advice can be found on www.therandomp.com.
I've been freelancing for several years and recently I decided to come up with a help for all new freelancers out there. That is how my online course "Ready... Set... Start freelancing!'' was made.
How long have you owned your own business?
The very beginning of Therandomp can be found around 2 years ago.
What made you decide to start your own business?
I've always been a multi-artist willing to find my own path in the world and leave some remark here. Since the age of 16, I always looked for new opportunities, I have experience in all fields you can and can't imagine! I've worked, traveled, learned all on my own in search for that one perfect fit that will make me happy. That is how I found freelancing! The more I learned about it the more I realized - this is it!
What was the best advice you received when you started your career?
Truth to be told: I didn't receive any. I didn't have any advisors, I didn't know anyone who was working the way I planned to, therefore, I learned it all from online resources. One of the most important pieces I've taken with me from there: take it slow and stay consistent! Didn't manage to do that at the very beginning of my own business, though...
What do you wish someone had told you when you started your business?
Quality over quantity!
What are the three skills that new entrepreneurs need in order to succeed?
Ability to be patient and consistent;
Courage to be brave and go for what's in your mind;
Organizational skills to succeed and make everything happen!
What routines do you have in place to help your days run smoothly?
I'm always trying to write things down the same minute when they appear on my mind so my ideas are not cluttered. I have a rule not to add anything new to today's to-do list, unless it's really, really necessary (and usually it's not).
I have to be honest here: I am a pretty disorganized person and I have a problem with getting any kind of system in place. My day runs smoothly if I have the option to go with the flow and trust my guts on what, how and when should be done!
How do you find balance as an entrepreneur?
I used to work 24/7 (and a bit more) until recently when I ran out of any creative resources and energy. That was when I started to think about this and decided to take at least one day off weekly and one weekend off monthly. That's huge for me! I'm just trying to ease into this new routine but these days will be my offline time for some sanity.
I do enjoy my slow (and late) mornings when I can prepare some breakfast, sit on my balcony and think about how many amazing things are going to happen today. It sets the mood!
Also, 1 hour for fitness activities (running, yoga and other exercises) daily is a must! I love my fitness and it boosts my energy and definitely gives me some daily life balance.
What is your favorite thing about being an entrepreneur?
Option to take on the projects I want to, work with people I enjoy and make things happen whenever and however I want to. I am a really outgoing person but truth to be told: I don't really like to work with other people... I feel like doing things myself, as long as I can and want to do that, is perfect for me!
What do you do to unwind?
Meet new people, travel and read books!
What is a project that you are working on right now or just finished?
Online course for new freelancers "Ready... Set... Start freelancing!" was launched few months ago and is rocking it! I created this project out of pure passion and that's exactly how I love and appreciate it right now. You can check it out at www.readysetstartfreelancing.com!
How can people get in touch with you?
Thank you for having me over!
