The Interview Series: Spotlight on Preston Odenbrett

Tell me a little about you and your company.

Originally from the awesome state of Minnesota for 40 years. Married with a 10 year-old son, going on 15. Started company as a side line business when I was part of another startup which was still in the development.

How long have you owned your own business?

4 1/2 years

What made you decide to start your own business?

I had no choice, I moved to Honduras because of need from my in-laws to help with new responsibilities of the ministry. We had left as my wife and I lost our jobs, so it was a blessing in disguise. Nothing held us in the USA so we moved.  I was going to teach Engish but that did not work out, so I started my business.

What was the best advice you received when you started your career?

Keep on keeping on, from a pastor friend of mine back in the states when we had our own networking group we started up.

What do you wish someone had told you when you started your business?

Have money saved and spend a portion on business expansion.

What are the three skills that new entrepreneurs need in order to succeed?

Determination

Flexible Plans

Hard work

What routines do you have in place to help your days run smoothly?

You have to preplan your day and stick to what you wanted to accomplish, you have to be careful about spending too much time on researching new tools or processes. Do Not fall for all the shiny new objects out there. ---(Shiny object syndrome)

How do you find balance as an entrepreneur?

That is tough. If you have an international business and you have clients all over the world you more than likely are working almost all day to be able to have meetings when they are available. Could be a 3 am meeting but that is 8 am for them.

I attempt to have normal business hours but is a challenge. You never want to miss an opportunity, but it can be taxing on myself and my family. Fortunately, they understand what Global business means.

What is your favorite thing about being an entrepreneur?

I like being able to set my own schedule and if something is needed from my family, I can take that time off if needed by just looking in the mirror and stating I need this time off and the boss usually says ok, no problem.

What do you do to unwind?

I try to either play video games with my son or talk with him about his dreams and what he wants to do. I also enjoy going to a beach and fish if I can.

What is a project that you are working on right now or just finished?

I am working on a finding travel scouts around the world that like our concept and can help find new locations so we can share with the rest of the world the beauty the world has by installing our HD live streaming camerasfrom that location 24/7.
